Sunset on the Albufera – Valencia, Spain

Golden light, calm waters, and a boat ride to remember.

On a warm evening in August, I headed to Albufera Lake, just a short trip from the heart of Valencia. The air was still, the sky clear, and the sun already starting its slow descent. I joined a small group on one of the traditional wooden boats used by local fishermen, their shapes and colors unchanged for generations.

Gliding into the golden hour, surrounded by stillness.

We set off about an hour before sunset, the soft sound of the water against the boat the only thing breaking the quiet. The lake seemed endless, glowing in the warm light.

When the sky turned to fire and the birds danced across it.

As the sun sank lower, the colors turned from gold to deep orange. That’s when I took one of my favorite shots — a flock of birds flying right across the glowing sun. It felt like time slowed, just long enough to capture the moment.

By the time we returned, the sky had faded into soft pinks and purples. Albufera has a way of making you feel both small and deeply connected to nature — and I know I’ll be back.
